Every single device which is connected to the web has a special identifier known as IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes personal computers, web servers, smart phones, switches, etcetera. The pool of IP addresses, that was introduced initially, is already distributed, so the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are gradually getting replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain that opens a site comes with an IP record, that is the address of the server where it is hosted. When using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is made up of four sets of numbers from 1 to 255 separated by a dot, while in the IPv6 system it's called AAAA and it consists of eight groups of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this type of records use numbers from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An illustration of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format supports a significantly bigger number of IPs than the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Cloud Website Hosting
If you use a service with a third-party service provider and you have to set up an AAAA record to direct a domain address or a subdomain to their system, you are going to be able to do that with just a few clicks through the Hepsia CP, which comes with all our cloud website hosting solutions. After you log in, you will need to proceed to the DNS Records section where you are going to find all of the records for any domain or subdomain hosted in the account. Creating a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, selecting the type from a drop-down options menu, that is to be AAAA in this case, and then typing the value, or the actual IPv6 address, inside a text box. As an added option you could edit the TTL value (Time To Live), which defines how long the record is active after you edit it or remove it in the future. The new AAAA record is going to be live in only an hour and will propagate worldwide two or three hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start redirecting to the new hosting server.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
When you've got a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to set up an AAAA record for a domain name you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it is going to take you only a few clicks inside the Hepsia CP to accomplish this. Even if you have never had a web hosting account before, you'll not encounter any troubles as you will use a very simple and easy-to-use interface. All of the DNS records for your domain addresses will be listed in a section of the CP with the same name, so as soon as you go there, you will notice all records which have been set up automatically or manually and you're going to be able to create a new one by simply clicking the corresponding button. A small pop-up will appear, so with a few mouse clicks you can choose the type of record you require and for which domain or subdomain it will be created. Afterwards, just paste the IPv6 address within a text box, save the modification and 1 hour later the new AAAA record will be completely live. As an optional setting, you can pick the length of time this record is going to be working after you modify it or remove it in the future. This is actually the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can modify from the standard 3600 seconds when the other service provider demands it.
